Your Role as a Speaker

Our chief objective is to produce an event recognized for its high-caliber technical presentations. As such, we strongly caution speakers against commercial presentations. Marketing pitches severely mar the integrity of the conference and, it should be noted, diminish the credibility of the speaker for attendees who are expecting content-rich sessions.

Similarly, the Embedded Power Conference prohibits the distribution within the classroom or technical program area any material (brochures, contest entries, product spec. sheets, etc.) related to the speaker’s company or its products. In promoting a speaker’s participation in the Technical Program, companies are strongly encouraged to keep these concerns in mind. We will not support or invite back any speaker who delivers a presentation with a focus on their company’s product or service, or who otherwise compromises the spirit of the speaker’s role.

Technical Papers and Class Notes- Due August 5, 2008
As a speaker, you are responsible for both a technical paper and set of presentation slides for your session(s). Each of these items will be included on the conferenceProceedings  given to each conference attendee. In addition, attendees will have access to these papers and notes on-line. Please read the Proceeding Paper and Presentation Guidelines below and we encourage you to read, the Tips to Improve Your Presentation document:

Technical Paper Guidelines:

Format (PDF): For Proceedings and archival purposes, please submit your technical paper as a PDF. Place the class title, the class number and your name prominently at the beginning of your document.

File Naming: Please use the following format for labeling your technical paper:

“ EPC-206Paper_Smith.pdf"

Insert the graphics in your document: Do not “link” the graphics to your document. All graphics, pictures, charts, figures, and etc. should be inserted (embedded) into your electronic file.  Use data compression to preserve the integrity of your files: In order to avoid lost data when you are submitting your proceedings paper, please WinZip your file.

Presentation  Guidelines:

Format (PDF and PPT):  Please submit your class notes in both pdf and native file formats. Place the class title, the class number and your name prominently at the beginning of your document. When you submit a PDF, please prepare the file with two slides per page (handout view).

Colors: Many Attendees will be printing out a copy or your notes to carry into the classroom. We ask that you keep this in mind and use colors in your slides that will be printer friendly in grayscale or black and white.

Fonts: Please use standard fonts in your presentations. Some examples are Arial, Times New Roman and Courier. We want to avoid the possibility of some attendees not being able to view your notes because of the font used.

Company Logo: Please refrain from placing your company logo on your slides.

Content: Ideal material includes general session overviews, copies of slides and or files, notes, diagrams, and problem solving exercises. The content of your notes will depend on the format of your actual presentation.

File Naming: Please use the following format for labeling your class notes

“EPC-206Slides_Smith.pdf”
“EPC-206Slides_Smith.ppt"

Templates: Powerpoint templates that incorporate the Embedded Power Conference logo will be available in mid-June.  However, please feel free to create your own slide template with the Embedded Power Conference logo.

If you have any other content you’d like to provide for attendees, you are welcome to submit additional files.

Audio Visual:

Each conference session room will include the following:

1 wired lavaliere microphone

1 podium Microphone

1 LCD projector with laptop connection

Evaluations:
At the end of each session, evaluations are passed out to attendees to gather their feedback.  Our Conference Team collects the evaluation, tabulates the results and provides each instructor with individualized feedback on their performance after the event.
